I met Anita after agreeing to read her book then give an honest review. Click here to read my review  I was very impressed with this great read. I contacted her right away and asked if she would be willing to join us here on Let's Talk. I asked Anita to tell us how God led her on her writing journey. Here is what she said:

God Nudged Me Upward

My writer’s journey has been a little like climbing a tall pine tree, hoisting myself up branch by branch. Sometimes my legs would shake and my spirit would grow faint with all the climbing and striving to learn the craft and to finally find a way to that pretty tree house called publication.

Many times through the years I wanted to just stop the ascent, get off the tree, and go do something else. And yet each time I slipped down a few branches, I felt God nudging me upward again and again, helping me to gain a better foothold in spite of all the prickly obstacles.

Yes, plainly speaking, I experienced a lot of rejection before I got published. And even though I have thirty-seven books out in various genres, I still experience rejection.

Am I glad I chose this profession, this climb? Yes. I wouldn’t want any other view, any other life but the writer’s life.

Best-selling and award-winning author, Anita Higman, has thirty-six books published. She’s been a Barnes & Noble “Author of the Month” for Houston and has a BA in the combined fields of speech communication, psychology, and art. Anita loves good movies, exotic teas, and brunch with her friends.

Lily Winter's wings are folded so tightly around her daughter that when
empty nest arrives, she feels she can no longer fly. But Lily's lonely, widowed
life changes in a heartbeat when she goes to visit a woman who is almost a stranger
to her-a woman who also happens to be her mother. During their fiery reunion, her
mother reveals a dark family secret that she'd been hiding for decades-Lily has
an identical twin sister who was put up for adoption when they were just babies.
Without looking back, Lily-with her fear of flying-boards a jumbo jet
and embarks on a quest to find her sister which leads half way around the world
to Melbourne, Australia. Befriended by imprudent Ausie, he might prove to be the
key to finding her sister. But her journey becomes a circle that leads her back
home to attempt a family reunion and to find the one dream she no longer imagined
possible-the chance to fall in love again.

Charlotte Rose Hill has been serving up country delicacies, uniquely blended teas, and matchmaking advice for her quirky but beloved customers for more than 10 years. But for her, marriage seems like an elusive butterfly, always out of reach. At 18, Charlotte fell in love with a young man, Sam Wilder, but his family convinced her to walk away from their relationship. She did, and then became engaged to another man, who later died before they were married. Now, more than a decade later, Charlotte finds that she still has feelings for her first love. Initially thrilled to learn that Sam has come home to Middlebury, Texas, Charlotte is devastated to learn that he’s brought someone with him: his fiancĂ©e. But all is not lost when the townsfolk decide to get involved. Will Charlotte and Sam find their way back to each other?

Thank you, Anita, for Joining us This Weekend!

Anyone's journey can seem strenuous. For me the most difficult task is learning to take a much needed break to allow God to restore my strength. What Bible verse would you recommend for renewing strength, waiting on the Lord, or listening to his nudgings?

Patty said...

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

It's not always easy to stop and rest! We live in such a hurry, hurry world!

Would love to win a copy of Anita's newest book.

Hi, Mary!

Enjoyed reading about Anita's writing journey! I love the story line for "Winter in Full Bloom", and would love to read it! Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy!

Along the line of listening to the Lord's nudgings, 1 Corinthians 2:6-16, explains how our fellowship with God can help us make decisions.

Be blessed, Mary!

Love hearing from you, Bonnie.
Blessings on you, too, sweet friend.
