Mary here. I have a blessing for you. First, I love Varina name, makes me want to name a character that. Second, she took the challenge to visit with us a second time. Yeah, I have a stack of requirements to insure you'd have a great weekend with an author who not only is amazing, but also has a great story to share. She did it. Today's post is entertaining and from the heart.
I'm beyond happy to welcome Varina today. I asked her, How has God led you on your writing journey? Here is what he said:

God Has Bigger Plans

My life is filled with instances of me planning details down to a tee. Like when I would marry. When I would have children. How many children I would have. Where I would live. The list goes on and on. I set goals (which is a good thing!), but when things don’t go according to plan, I tend to get upset. The more this happens, the more I realize goal setting is an excellent place to start, but those goals may not come to fruition. Sometimes God has other plans.

When I was newly married, my husband and I decided we would have four children, two years apart, preferably boy-girl-boy-girl, but of course none of that happened. When it was all said and done, we had five children, not four; and they were not conveniently two years apart; and they landed girl-boy-boy-girl-girl. I laugh at our plans now. Clearly God had something else in mind for us … or perhaps he simply left things up to the draw … to teach us humility.

The same thing has happened in my writing. I originally planned to write light-hearted romance, but God led me to write issue-driven women’s fiction. I thought I would sit in my office all day, happily pecking away at the keyboard (an introvert’s dream), but God showed me the importance of writer friends, support groups, and educational opportunities. I thought I would NEVER do public speaking, but God has shown me that I can conquer that hurdle too.

It all boils down to getting out of my comfort zone. I didn’t want to write women’s fiction. I didn’t want to meet other writers. I didn’t want to do public speaking. But goodness knows, it’s not all about what I want. God has bigger plans for me, and he keeps giving me the strength and encouragement to get through the tough spots.

A heartbroken woman desires to move beyond old memories, but will her past give way to hope?
Lynda Turner has struggled with depression since her husband abandoned her and their young daughter fifteen years ago. Yet unexpected hope awakens when a local ex-convict shows interest. As long-hidden secrets resurface, Lynda must fight for her emotional stability and for a life in which the shadow of shame is replaced by the light of love.
Jilted tells of a woman who has lost the joy of living, of a man determined to draw her back toward happiness, and of a town that must—once and for all-leave the past where it belongs. It is a gentle reminder that all things can work together for good.

  2. Mary, I also love Varina's name and I can empathize with her that our plans are not always God's plan! Varina, light-hearted romance is enjoyable but I imagine that you have touched many lives and encouraged many people with your Mended Hearts series. I have already had the pleasure of reading and reviewing Jilted and I hope to read the other books in the Mended Hearts series soon.
    Thanks for sharing this interview.
