The morning came.
For a February day, it started out a-mazing here in the north.
The grass was green, farmers started preparing their fields, birds sang, flowers bloomed. The weatherman forecasted doom...yeah, right.
Lunch time passed. No sign of doom.
1:00 bonged. Tiny flakes, smaller than dandruff, flitter from the sky. Not exactly doom.
1:30 the wind blasted in from the north. Visibility was cut to fifty percent.
2:00 Events cancelled, schools sent kids home early, and business closed for the evening.
3:00 Visibility-0 percent. White out conditions. The wind howled. Sticky heavy snow piled in the yard.
4:00 The city was closed down. Police escorted people from businesses and colleges. Any business still open, closed.
Amazing how a tiny snowflakes can shut down an entire city in only a few hours.
This made me think of us and our choices to do something wrong. Not something big, just something small. We make the choice because it is easier, it'll benefit us, no one would notice.
It would only happen this once. We promised.
Then another occasion comes along and we make the same choice. What? It wasn't that big of a deal. The wrong choices build, driving us away from God without our noticing.
We can't remember the last time we spent quality time with God. A long session of prayer or meditation. The last time we reviewed the sermon in our mind or learned a Bible verse.
We shut down, like the city did with snow. We avoid anything to do with God. The Spirit speaks to us and guilt pricks our heart. We think God would never forgive us, so we stay away and allow the evil one to convince us we can never be good enough for God.
The truth is, we can't be good enough, and that is why God sent His son Jesus to take the punishment for all our sins. God did this because He loves us. He loved us before we even knew Him. He yearns for us to spend time with Him, to learn from Him, to fellowship with Him.
If you have missed fellowshipping with God, go to your room, close the door, and talk to Him. He will listen. And He will speak to your heart.
You are loved by the Almighty God way more than you will ever know.
